Kathy has a long track record of working for students and families in Newton. Kathy has served as:
** Newton Public Schools Community Liaison for the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) department. Kathy coordinated parent/caregiver workshops on Responsive Classroom.
** Director of The Newton Partnership. Kathy oversaw grants and programs including a collaboration with the Calculus Project designed to help close the achievement gap.
** Director of the Childcare Scholarship Fund. Kathy led the effort to raise money for families struggling to pay for after-school programs.
** Parent trainer in Youth Mental Health First Aid. Kathy trained parents to support a young person in an addiction or mental health crisis.
** Advisor to the Newton Youth Commission.
** Board Member of the Centre Street Food Pantry.
** Board President of the Newton North Tiger Athletic Booster Club.
Kathy is currently Director of Alumni Relations at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and serves on their Diversity and Community Matters Committee.
Kathy has been endorsed by the Newton TAB who wrote: “Marchi has the experience to make a solid contribution to the School Committee from the onset.”
Kathy’s priorities include Full Day Kindergarten, equitable and affordable access to after-school programs, and strong fiscal oversight. Kathy will be an informed, insightful, independent voice on the School Committee who will represent all of Newton.
